Cafe seminar “Business powered by values”

Date:
22 May 2008, 11:00-16:00

Venue:
Atrium of Ukrainian Catholic University

Issue introduction
A fast growth of Eastern European Markets requires strong management skills, leaders’ ability to manage business in the competitive environment and implementation of best practices. This makes organizations develop. Nevertheless, Eastern European business faces challenges because of lack of systematic approaches to business management, innovations within organizations’ support and development, and lack of understanding of vision and values. Building structured organizations managed with a systematic approach can be rapidly achieved by implementing international experience, training and involvement of highly professional consultants. Developing joint vision and values requires a much more substantial approach and understanding. But shared vision and values powering organizations can result in a competitive edge and drive a company to new business perspectives.

The Lviv Business School of UCU envisions sharing with managers and organizational leaders the “business powered by values” concept. This approach has already been positively influencing both business results and organizations’ stakeholders. We are looking forward to sharing the experience of professionals and Ukrainian organizational leaders.

The first event devoted to the topic will give the answer to the question “are we prepared to run business powered by values?” and “how can we turn concept into practice in Ukraine?”

The purpose of the event is to

• share the vision of what business powered by values is
• understand how values power business results
• how to run business powered by values

Questions that matter
1. How values power business?
2. What are the main steps developing business powered by values?
3. How do values influence the efficiency and productivity?
4. Is Ukrainian business prepared and/or able to implement the concept (talking about both external and internal factors)?
5. What are the main constrains for business powered by values development in Ukraine?

The word “values” may be defined as “a standard or quality considered to be worthwhile or desirable.” Values form the basis of human behavior. They shape the thinking and the character of individuals and of organizations. This happens because values relate to the way in which we perceive and interpret the world around us.
Successful businesses are based on core values that are understood and reinforced throughout all levels of the organization. During our session on “Values-Powered Business,” we will discuss the importance of values in effective organizations, and how to establish and maintain values that sustain organizational growth.

Connecting diverse perspectives
Business leaders, top manager, professors, scientists, government representatives and NGO sector leaders will take part in the cafe-seminar. Different world views and ideas from different fields shared at the seminar will bring new perspectives and understanding of the current situation of business powered by values development in Ukraine.

Cafe -seminar
A well-know format of a learning and discussion event developed to share ideas and thoughts in a non-formal and positive atmosphere. Participants are usually seated at cafe-style tables and share roles of table hosts and ambassadors. Table hosts (one host at a table) stay at one table and ambassadors move to another table after the question or topic is changed and share their views and ideas.

Lviv city, where the event will take place, is well known for its fascinating atmosphere and “at coffee” discussions.
